With preparations for the 2025 CEE Legal Matters Balkan General Counsel Summit in full swing, Zivko Mijatovic & Partners Of Counsel Vladimir Marenovic shares his thoughts about the upcoming event and what he's looking forward to the most.

CEELM: Why did your firm decide to participate in the CEE Legal Matters Balkan GC Summit in Belgrade?

Marenovic: From our perspective, and more broadly, events like this bring real value not only to our practice but also to the local business and legal community. The summit provides an excellent platform to exchange experiences with colleagues from the industry, learn about their practices, and connect with other stakeholders not only in the legal industry but in the business area as well. And, of course, there’s the social aspect – it’s always nice to reconnect. Serbia doesn’t have as large a legal industry as countries like Germany or the US, so most of us know each other, and it’s convenient to have everyone together in one place.

CEELM: What are you most looking forward to at the GC Summit?

Marenovic: Networking is at the top of the list. I’m really looking forward to meeting new people and broadening my professional circle. Beyond that, I’m also interested in hearing from colleagues about the issues and challenges they are facing – those exchanges are always insightful. But above all, the chance to connect with peers, both old and new, is what excites me most.

CEELM: And what about the panels and the content of the summit itself – what discussions would you like to hear the most?

Marenovic: I’m particularly curious to hear how professionals in other industries, especially in IP, are addressing the rise of AI. It’s fascinating to learn how these tools are being introduced and implemented in practice. Beyond IP, I’m keen to see how confidentiality and other sensitive issues are being managed in this evolving landscape. Those discussions are not only timely but also highly relevant to the broader legal market.

CEELM: Why should GCs make sure to attend this summit?

Marenovic: Because it’s really a “must-attend” event. The chance to build new relationships, engage with important topics, and be part of conversations shaping the region makes it invaluable. On top of that, the visibility and exposure that come from participating are an added benefit. For General Counsels, it’s a unique opportunity to expand their network, learn, and showcase their expertise – all in one place.
